I think I might up budget a bit for a decent one. The Shogun do just seem generally more robust. Thanks for your reply, that's very helpful. Shogun, Jeep or Discovery ? - Which 4x4 ? - Quo Vadis

The Subaru Forester will be a hit with tall drivers and their front seat passengers, since it has greater front head- and legroom than the Jeep Cherokee. And I live out in the sticks, and know lots of farmers, horsey types, shooters, vets, etc. Comfort Rear passengers will be able to stretch out a lot more in the Jeep Cherokee than in the Subaru Forester. I know of plenty of horror stories about Jeeps and Discoverys (especially the D3 which came out about 2004), but I don't know of any really horrific ones for Shoguns. A slightly biased viewpoint, as we've got one. Lastly, if I was going to go for one of those you've listed. Stamps in a book, and ticks next to 'items to be done' mean nothing without receipts.Īn informed buyer is someone who is a lot harder to con. All the maintenance being done and up-to-date is critical (shoguns need regular cambelt changes, Discoverys have MAJOR expensive services about 100k), learn exactly what they all need to have had done, and if the invoices aren't there, walk away.
you might equally get one that has just done the school run, and the closest it has seen to 'off-road' is a small kerb when parking half-on the pavement. Now we've taken off the rose-tinted glasses. As such, any of them COULD need expensive parts, repairs, etc. You are buying a big, complicated (read originally expensive) vehicle, with a big, complicated (read expensive to fix) drivetrain, that is a decade or so old (read tired, parts worn out), and will have done a moderate to high mileage (again, tired, parts worn out).
Unfortunately, any of these, if bought for £5k could be an absolute money pit. Only in extreme off-road situations would I choose my wife's Renegade, although it's a far second choice to the Wranglers I've owned in the past.Shogun, Jeep or Discovery ? - Which 4x4 ? - RobJP The Crosstrek accomplished most of those things far superior to the Renegade.
#JEEP RENEGADE VS SUBARU FORESTER FORUM SOFTWARE#
The Fora platform includes forum software by XenForo. I can take it on a regular road trip, day to day driving, in bad weather (including heavy snow) and all of my outdoors "adventures" with little to no worries. This is an older thread, you may not receive a response, and could be reviving an old thread. I felt that my Crosstrek was much more versatile, as is my Outback now. The Renegade is too small, sluggish, has electrical issues that we are about to go back to the dealer for, gets less gas mileage than even my much larger Outback and in my opinion isn't very comfortable to be in (not in the size sense, the design of the seating itself). That said, unless I lived in the woods and had to drive down a 5 mile unimproved dirt road to get to and from my house every day, I would never choose the Renegade over the Crosstrek (or a Subaru in general, I drive an Outback now). Hands down the Renegade is a better off-road vehicle due to the solid Jeep 4x4 system, but it really isn't a fair comparison because AWD and 4x4 are totally different.
